Until the advent of IGS, it was difficult for most Go players to observe and discuss live games. It was even more difficult to watch live games between pros in real time. Through IGS it is now possible to observe and discuss games between pro vs. pro, pro vs. amateur, and amateur vs. amateur -- live as the games are happening. And, of course, these discussions can take place between people all over the world.

To begin observing games, first use the games command to see a listing of the games currently being played, and then select a game with the observe command. You can also observe a game by a particular person if you know their IGS name. Use the stats command to see if that person is online and playing a game. If the person is playing a game, the stats command will show the game number. You can also use the who or user commands.

Please be sure to read all the commands on the right so that you will know all the options available to you.
