commands

Usage: tell 'playername' 'your message'

tell is used for private conversations with another player. To start a conversation, use "tell  playername plus your message", followed by the Enter or Return key on your keyboard to send your message.

Example:   tell beamer hello

To reduce typing, the player's name can be eliminated by several methods. After the first tell, you can continue talking to the same person by using  tell .  (The player's name is replaced by the  .  )

Example:   tell . would you like to play a game?

However, using the   .   by itself further reduces typing.

Example:   .  would you like to play game?

The recipient of a tell can respond with either:

tell  playername
or
^

The   ^   is a shortcut that can only be used once to respond to an initial tell message. Afterwards, you must use either   .  or   tell  to respond.

Example:   ^  Yes, I would like to play.

tell $  can be used to talk to the last person entering IGS.

Example:   tell $ hello

tell #game number  can be used to talk to both players involved in a game.

Example:   tell #175 great game!

Some clients use a dialog box, or window, to simplify using the tell command. Simply enter your message into the dialog box, or window, and then hit the Enter or Return key on your keyboard to send your message.
