Here is a partial who display without a client

The who display will show letters or numbers, or both, in three areas to the left of the players. The letters indicate the state of certain switches. The first number indicates the number of a game a person is observing, the second number indicates the number of a game a player is involved in playing.

The following letters represent the 'states':

Q - system messages are not seen
S - shouts are not seen, except administrator shouts
X - not accepting match requests
! - looking for games
(The 'states' are set on or off (true or false) with the toggle command.)

In the following example, the first 3 lines are a typical who display, and illustrates how the states are used.

tobe' has the letter 'Q' and the number '12' to the left of the name. This indicates tobe has disabled seeing system messages, and that tobe is observing game 12.

'tillie' has the letter 'S' and '!', which indicate tillie has disabled seeing shouts, and is looking for games. The number '12' directly before the name indicates tillie is playing in game number 12.

'beam' has the letter 'X', which indicates beam is closed for games and is not accepting match requests.

'ivy' is playing in game number 12 with tillie.

The lower case 's' and 'm' after a number indicate the length of time a player has been idle.

s - seconds
m - minutes
h - hours
