question2
I have been playing on PandaNet for over a year now. I often have trouble when my opponent builds a large centre territory. Until the middle game, I concentrate on the sides and I don’t develop into the middle. Can you give me any advice?

Hello, Mr. Nakamura. (^_^)
I see. You do have a problem.

Perhaps the reason is that you are fonder of territory than of moyos. I’m the same, so I often find my opponents building moyos. So I have to jump into the enemy moyo and then it’s kill or be killed!

Well, what’s the best strategy to prevent the opponent from building a large territory in the centre? The first important point is to make sure you don’t let the opponent seal you in on the side. If you poke your head out into the centre, it should be difficult for your opponent to build a moyo.

Another strategy is to build a moyo first yourself. I recommend this when you are playing with white. Since you are a move ahead, you would not fall behind in a moyo-building contest.

Looking at it from your opponent’s point of view, it takes a lot of moves to make centre territory. Also, the drawback of centre territory is that if one part of the wall is ruptured, it’s hard to preserve any territory there. You should keep an eye on what the opponent is doing and make sure you maintain your own access to the centre.

These are all the ideas I can come up with. I wish you the best of luck in your games.
Thank you for your letter.
