Hello, Ms. Mannami. I am enjoying your articles serialized in magazines every month.
I find it very hard to get enough time to play go. I was wondering how you plan your own go study.
Consultation Two : Mr. Iwata
answer

Hello, Mr. Iwata. Thank you for your consultation. Thanks very much for reading my articles. I'm very glad that, as busy as you are, you can find some time to enjoy go. I also often have trouble finding time to study, what with housework and my teaching commitments. Even when I'm busy, though, I study books of life-and-death problems when I'm travelling on trains and buses. Sometimes a return trip takes 90 minutes, so it's quite useful for study. Also, even if I can study for only 30 minutes after I come home, I concentrate as hard as I can.

An ultra top-class player once told me that when he was a live-in disciple, he was so busy looking after the junior disciples and doing housework for the teacher that he had virtually no time to study. Even so, when he had a bit of spare time he concentrated really hard. I think he said he studied about two hours a day, but that concentrated study became genuine sustenance, and later he took one title after another.

I think that even short periods of study will add up and become a major source of strength.

It's enough to do something when you are travelling, before you go to bed, and when you get a little bit of free time.

I hope that you continue to enjoy go.
