Hello, Ms. Chinen.
I play on Pandanet as a 3-kyu. At first, I do well, but often I suddenly realize that I have no eyes and I am under attack. What should I watch out for?

answer

Hello, Ms. Tauchi. Thank you for your question.

Starting well but then finding yourself under attack: I think this is something that happens to everyone. It's a pity, though, if it leads to a loss.

When hand-to-hand fighting starts, I think it's important always to pay attention to the relative strength and weakness of groups. Strong groups = groups that are alive. Weak groups = groups that have not yet been stabilized. Basically, you should aim to play from your weak groups. Even if you come under attack, the enemy groups are bound to have weaknesses, too. It's a good idea to look for those weaknesses. (^-^)

I also recommend studying life-and-death problems. I think it's a good idea to repeatedly study simple, basic problems. You are sure to get stronger at life and death and you will naturally learn good shape.

I make it a daily task to study simple life-and-death problems.

I hope that you will develop your own style and keep enjoying playing go.
