What can ordinary go fans do to increase the number of go fans around us? Please give me some advice.

answer

When I hold beginners' classes, people sometimes consult me about the best way to teach go to their friends. Usually when I teach beginners I focus on the following five rules.

Rule 1: Black and White play alternately on the intersections.
Rule 2: The side with more territory wins.
Rule 3: You can capture stones by surrounding them.
Rule 4: There are points where you can't play (forbidden points).
Rule 5: The ko rule.

I start by explaining Rule 1 on 7x7 and 9x9 boards.

When teaching children, I call territory 'your garden' to make it easier to grasp.

Also, everyone loves capturing stones (me too - laughter), so after explaining Rule 3, I make time for the stone-capturing game, so that people get to put the rule into practice.

And I praise a lot. 'You did it!' 'Great!' 'Thanks.' Etc., etc.

Even if the students don't understand all of the explanation, the important thing is to get them to feel that go is fun and that they want to play again.

I think that go is a marvelous game you can enjoy with anyone regardless of sex, generation, and country. I will keep doing my best so that even just one more person can enjoy the game.
