question2
Hello, Ms. Chinen. When I play through professional games, I just play out the moves without thinking much about their meaning, but I have a feeling that this way I won’t improve. What should I concentrate on when I play over game records? I would be grateful for some tips.

answer
I believe that playing over game records is just as much a shortcut to improving as playing actual games. When I was a child, it was one of my daily chores to play over a number of games. At one time, I simply replayed the moves, just like you. In my case, I believed that I gradually developed my analytical ability by playing over the same game record repeatedly. On the second or third replay, questions would occur to me that didn’t occur the first time, and I would realize how good certain moves were. It’s also fun to concentrate on the games of a professional you like.

Of course, there’s no one correct answer to your question, but please try to think about how you would play if it were your game.

I’m sure you’ll get stronger. I am looking forward to getting some good news from you.
